2003 Ford Taurus, FWD, AUTO

today I was driving my daughter to school and when I made a left hand turn the car stopped, as in the engine was running but if wouldn't accelerate forward. I coasted into a parking lot and tried the different gears but still no response or movement. I am guessing it is the transmission, I have never had a single issue before this.
