Transmission noise

I have a 92 Dodge Spirit, 49k mi, its never given me problems till now. I have a terrible noise coming from the bell hosing. It almost sounds like a train. Def metal on metal sound but the vehicle drive perfect, just noisy. Sometimes I dont even hear it when I start it up. Is it worth it to have it looked at or should I sell it for parts?
