Transmission solenoids

I had my car in the shop and was going to have a used transmission put in. They just called me and told me they were able to drop the transmission and replace 2 solenoids in the bell housing and save me some money. My car is a 1990 Toyota Camry. It is an older car, but still runs pretty well. It is a friend of a friend that is doing the work. They were going to charge me 800.00 for the used trans and install and they are charging 590 for the replacement of the solenoids. Is this a good fix or is this something that may have an "underling reasons for the parts failure" as you state on your website. Any comment or suggestions would be appreciated!
