Lexus RX 300 high RPM

Hello,
I've got an issue with my 2000 RX 300. I appreciate for your inputs. The issue is that the RPM is higher than normal. Normally, when I go around 55 or 60MPH, the RPM should be about a little bit over 2000 RPM. But recently, the RPM does not come back like before, it would go up to 4000 RPM. Please help me, any body experience that problem? Please email me. Thank you and your help is greatly appreciate.
